How the number is worked out

A salary becomes an hourly cost like this: salary times 1.3, divided by 2,080 working hours a year. We add 30% for taxes and benefits. An $85,000 salary comes to $53.13an hour.

Hourly rates, which is how most consultants bill, are used as entered.

The meter multiplies each person's hourly cost by the time since you pressed start, minus any time paused. It works from timestamps, so a sleeping tab does not lose time.
